About Us

Frank's, since 2015
A café that became a roastery that never stopped being a café.
Frank's exists to introduce our community to delicious specialty coffee — and to send people out the door better than they arrived. That was the idea on day one on the café floor in 2015: people's lives are full and often stressful, so we're here to give generously — service that's excellent, personal, down to earth, and coffee that makes the day measurably better. We started out serving other people's coffee; since 2020 we've roasted our own, because the only way to stand behind every step is to take every step.
Champion's coffee — Honoka Kawashima won the 2023 NZSCA Meadow Fresh Barista Championship with our coffee, then placed 4th at the 2024 World Championship.
AeroPress — Sponsor of the Aotearoa AeroPress Championship 2025
NZSCA — Board service with the NZ Specialty Coffee Association.
Direct trade — Long-term buying relationships in Colombia through Cofinet, and at origin across Ethiopia and Kenya.
Made to hold — Our café cups are thrown by ceramicist Richard Beauchamp.
The small stuff, still.
The width of the lip on the cup — thrown for us by Richard Beauchamp. The playlist at 7am on a Monday. The roast date printed on every bag, and a note about when it'll taste best.
Welcome to Frank's
Two cafés, one roastery
The cafés are where you can taste what we mean before you buy a bag — The Terrace in the city, Riddiford Street in Newtown. The roastery is where it all comes from.
